?What is Neutrophils %?
Neutrophils are the most abundant white blood cells, comprising 50–70% of the total WBC count in healthy adults. They are the first responders to bacterial infection and tissue injury, engulfing and destroying pathogens through phagocytosis. The percentage reflects the proportion of neutrophils among all white cells.
!Why It Matters
Elevated neutrophil percentage (neutrophilia) suggests bacterial infection, inflammation, tissue necrosis, or steroid use. Low neutrophil percentage (neutropenia) increases risk of severe bacterial infection and is common during chemotherapy, autoimmune conditions, or viral illness. Monitoring neutrophils is critical in oncology and immunosuppressed patients.
