?What is Lymphocytes %?
Lymphocytes are white blood cells that play a central role in adaptive immunity — B cells produce antibodies, T cells coordinate immune responses and kill infected or cancer cells, and NK cells destroy abnormal cells. They are the second most common WBC after neutrophils.
!Why It Matters
Elevated lymphocytes (lymphocytosis) may indicate viral infections, certain leukaemias, or autoimmune conditions. Low lymphocytes (lymphopenia) can indicate severe malnutrition, immunosuppression, HIV, or be a consequence of corticosteroid therapy. Absolute lymphocyte count below 1000/µL significantly impairs immune function.
