?What is Neutrophils %?
Neutrophils are the most abundant white blood cells and form the first line of defence against bacterial infections. They engulf and destroy bacteria and fungi. The percentage of neutrophils in the differential white cell count reflects the balance of immune response types.
!Why It Matters
Elevated neutrophils (neutrophilia) indicate bacterial infection, stress, inflammation, or corticosteroid use. Low neutrophils (neutropenia) greatly increase susceptibility to bacterial infections. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is increasingly used as a marker of systemic inflammation and immune balance.
