Understanding LPS IgG: Normal vs Optimal Ranges

Also known as: lps igg

Gut HealthUnit: U/mL

?What is LPS IgG?

LPS IgG measures systemic IgG antibodies against bacterial lipopolysaccharide, reflecting chronic or sustained immune exposure to gut-derived endotoxin. Unlike IgA (mucosal response), IgG antibodies indicate that LPS has crossed into systemic circulation, activating the adaptive immune system. Elevated LPS IgG is a marker of chronic metabolic endotoxaemia and is associated with cardiometabolic and neurological disease.

!Why It Matters

Studies link elevated serum LPS and LPS antibodies to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer's disease via chronic TLR4-mediated inflammation. LPS IgG, unlike acute LPS, reflects the cumulative burden of gut-derived endotoxin exposure over months. Reducing LPS IgG through dietary and gut-healing interventions can lower systemic inflammatory tone.

Reference Ranges

Range TypeMinMaxUnitNote
Lab Normal10U/mLStandard lab reference range
Optimal6U/mLEvidence-based optimal range for health
Longevity Target6U/mLPer longevity medicine research (Attia et al.)

Lab normal ranges may vary between laboratories. Optimal and longevity targets are based on research literature and should be interpreted with your physician.

Symptoms of Imbalance

  • Chronic systemic inflammation: fatigue, myalgia, widespread aches
  • Insulin resistance or worsening metabolic syndrome
  • Cognitive decline, depression, or anxiety with gut symptoms
  • Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with normal traditional risk factors

How to Improve Your Levels

  • 1Mediterranean-style diet: shown to significantly reduce serum LPS and endotoxaemia
  • 2Intermittent fasting — reduces LPS translocation by improving gut barrier during fasting windows
  • 3Polyphenol-rich foods (berries, green tea, olive oil): reduce gut permeability
  • 4Address gut dysbiosis with targeted probiotics and prebiotics
  • 5Limit dietary fat (especially saturated fat) at single meals — fat can transiently increase LPS absorption

When to Test

Metabolic syndrome investigation; cardiovascular risk workup with systemic inflammation; suspected leaky gut with systemic manifestations; neurodegenerative disease risk screening.
